Our Calorie Calculator estimates how many Calories you will burn using Metabolic Equivalent (MET) values from Compendium of Physical Activities. The Compendium idenitifes the relative energy cost of undertaking various activities compared with doing nothing. We then combine this with your weight and the estimated duration of the activity, taking into account the length of the route and the hills involved, to estimate the total Calories burned.
When selecting an Activity setting, select the speed you would normally travel at on flat ground.
Please remember, the estimated number of Calories is just a guide and the actual number of Calories burned may vary depending on other factors such as weather and terrain.

Couldn't edit sufficiently. This hike is actually slightly under 5 miles. It heads consistently west then circles back to the deYoung. This seems to show us heading east on JFK Dr. after Stow Lake and back-tracking - no just head west. Basically, start in front of the deYoung Museum (note the Andy Goldsworthy "Drawn Stone" a crack in the outer lobby going over several boulders). Walk west and make a right on MLK Dr. for about 20'. Take the 1st right up the path - sign says to Conservatory of Fllowers, but you take the 1st left up a staircase to Stow Lake. Turn right and go around the north side of Stow Lake to the Boathouse. By the bathrooms behind the Boathouse take the path to JFK Sr. Pass the waterfall, below Prayerbook Cross, under Crossover Dr. Cross Tranverse Dr. and up it heading north, then left to a path that goes on the north side of the lake. Take the path rather than Fulton St, behind Spreckels Lake, behind the Bison Paddock to North Lake. I recommend going around the west side of the lake (unlike what this route map shows, but either way is ok). Bathrooms here. Turn back east at JFK Dr. Midway in front of the Bison Paddock cross street to Anglers Lodge. Go around a scant quarter of the Polo Field and take the path that leads above the Portals of the Path and back to JFK. Take JFK back to the deYoung. Enjoy the sculpture garden, cafe, bathrooms - admssion not needed. I recommend enjoying the deYoung exhibits too!
