    The Hills to Harbour Trail is a 70-mile, self-guided walking route from Guildford to Portsmouth linking railway stations on the Portsmouth main line. Section 09 takes your from Petersfield to Rowlands Castle Railway Station.
    At 12 miles, this is the longest section of the Guildford to Portsmouth trail. Train is the only public transport option in the area. To break the walk into shorter sections you could aim to finish at one of the pubs near the route and book a taxi back to a station.
    Several parts of the route cross open hillsides so take care to wrap up well in winter and take plenty of water, a hat, and sun protection in summer. There are hardly any places to top up with water. The first 3 miles are through farmland which becomes muddy after rain. The remainder of the route climbs onto better drained land and follows tracks or made up roads.
    On leaving Petersfield the route follows the Hangers Way as far as Buriton:
