Start: The top level of 4th Street parking garage on the U of M campus. Minneapolis
    Difficulty: 2/5
    Distance: 7.7 miles

*DIFFICULTY: Skaters must be comfortable skating in a city and wooded trail setting. The trail along the river has several hills. Skaters in attendance must be able to go up and down hill at a moderate pace. Skaters must be able to stop and control speed going down medium-long length, medium grade hills. For context skaters on 100mm-125mm skates have reported clocking themselves going 27mph+. That being said many new skaters have done these hills and are able to manage speed as to not lose control. Be aware of sticks and cracks when going down hills. A good rule of thumb is to go slow, and keep your distance from others. Hills can seem fun but road rash isn't; stop and slow down long before you have to. Slowing down and stoping is one of the last skills skaters develop: as a result it's a skill many skaters lack. It is something every skater in our group can still work on. Bombing hills is tempting but maintaining your slow speed will keep you safer, and make you a better skater. If you feel like you can safely stop while going your max speed, then you can bomb the hills. If you are not there yet please play it safe.

    CALCULATE CALORIES

    About the Calorie Calculator

Our Calorie Calculator estimates how many Calories you will burn using Metabolic Equivalent (MET) values from Compendium of Physical Activities. The Compendium idenitifes the relative energy cost of undertaking various activities compared with doing nothing. We then combine this with your weight and the estimated duration of the activity, taking into account the length of the route and the hills involved, to estimate the total Calories burned.

When selecting an Activity setting, select the speed you would normally travel at on flat ground.

Please remember, the estimated number of Calories is just a guide and the actual number of Calories burned may vary depending on other factors such as weather and terrain.
