Well, I got told off again for what I felt was a delightful walk 😁.
I chose the site of the old Bexhill Branch railway leading up to the now demolished viaduct over the Coombe Valley Marshes as it was basically a level surface made up of free draining hard-core. Why you might ask? Because Melanie is fed up with me taking her through wet and slippery paths and asking her why she has not bought some proper boots yet!!!
However, the surface was as described when I last walked it in the summer. The winter rain had stirred up the fallen leaves and the hard soil had turned to mud. The hardcore was admittedly not as free draining as I had remembered.
So......... we ended up with Melanie holding onto my shoulder while she was halfway up a bank, and angled to get purchase! This way we made painfully slow progress above most of the mud and water.
I made some brownie points by suggesting we took a tiny path I knew off the path of the old line. It bought us to a field. A muddy field, admittedly but we were homeward bound.
As usual I saw the funny side and Melanie did too but only the next day!!

    CALCULATE CALORIES

    About the Calorie Calculator

Our Calorie Calculator estimates how many Calories you will burn using Metabolic Equivalent (MET) values from Compendium of Physical Activities. The Compendium idenitifes the relative energy cost of undertaking various activities compared with doing nothing. We then combine this with your weight and the estimated duration of the activity, taking into account the length of the route and the hills involved, to estimate the total Calories burned.

When selecting an Activity setting, select the speed you would normally travel at on flat ground.

Please remember, the estimated number of Calories is just a guide and the actual number of Calories burned may vary depending on other factors such as weather and terrain.
