    LOERIE 28KM ROUTE

    Starting at the NMMU (Saasveld) sports fields, riders will head north-west for a short relatively flat section of +-5km to warm up the legs, before crossing the Swart River just south of Pepsi Pools. This river crossing (water point) consists of loose rocks and pebbles which should be negotiated with caution and immediately leads into a short, but brutally steep climb out of the river bed, with riders that will struggle to keep their front wheels grounded.

    After a short flat section to recover the legs, riders will now start the big climb of the day towards the railway “Horse shoe bend”. Once negotiated, riders will be directed towards the Elephant Bath trail for an exhilarating single track descent of 1km that will test your skills.

    After the water crossing at the bottom of the descent, a testing jeep track section on the western bank of the Garden Route Dam follows, with several short, punchy climbs. Watch out for the Knysna Loerie and listen for the call of a Fish Eagle.

    Riders will now return to the Swart River crossing (waterpoint @ 17 km), head back east and complete their ride on the jeep track leading back to the Saasveld sports fields.
