    1. The starting point of the walk is just outside the Kitschnbake cafe on Boat Brae in Newport-on-Tay.

    2. Start off westward and then turn left immediately after the Brig o Tay pub, along a path which passes round the back of the pub and out onto the road behind.

    3. To the right a little up the road is the opening to Tayfield Estate, with green gates and a lodge house. Enter here and head up the path, keeping right at the first fork and onward past a duck pond. Beyond the duck pond further up the path there is a path leading off to the left - take this path and pass a second pond.

    4. The exit from Tayfield Estate leads onto Cupar Road. Turn right and cross the road, thereafter heading up the steps and onto the trackbed of the dismantled Newport railway.

    5. At the end of the path, at the bottom of the steps head straight ahead along Linden Avenue. At Station Brae, take a right towards the A92 dual carriageway.

    6. The route can be seen directly across the other side of the A92 from Station Brae. However, follow the path round to the right and cross the carriageways using the crossings provided, taking care to look out for oncoming traffic.

    7. The path straightens out, and eventually leads to woodland and a fork in the path. Head right, following the path round and past some agricultural cottages.

    8. Upon reaching the junction with the minor unmarked road (there are farm cottages on the right) turn left and follow this road.

    9. After about 1.25 miles, keep right at the junction with Scotscraig Estate to come out onto the main B945 road into Tayport. Directly across the road there a pink gravel path - follow it round to the right along Scotscraig Burn. Cross Sandyhill Road and keep on the pink gravel path.

    10. The path leads onto Pond Lane, which then reaches Elizabeth Street. Take a right and follow Elizabeth Street until it turns left onto Golf Road, past Scotscraig Golf Course.

    11. Beyond Scotscraig Golf Course, take a left onto Shandwell Road and follow it round until it turns sharply left at Scotscraig works; here, take a right along the track through the trees.

    12. Follow the path alongside the trees until the pond just before the playpark. At this point, turn right and head past the pond towards the Promenade. Follow the Promenade until it joins Harbour Road.

    13. Take a right onto Harbour Road. At this point, the remainder of the route follows the Fife Coastal Path, which is well signposted, for the remaining 3.25 miles all the way back the the startpoint at Kitschnbake.

    14. Note that the Tay Bridgehead car park can be bypassed by continuing straight at the junction and onward under the Tay Road Bridge, although there are toilets, a kiosk and a viewpoint at the car park.

    CALCULATE CALORIES

    About the Calorie Calculator

Our Calorie Calculator estimates how many Calories you will burn using Metabolic Equivalent (MET) values from Compendium of Physical Activities. The Compendium idenitifes the relative energy cost of undertaking various activities compared with doing nothing. We then combine this with your weight and the estimated duration of the activity, taking into account the length of the route and the hills involved, to estimate the total Calories burned.

When selecting an Activity setting, select the speed you would normally travel at on flat ground.

Please remember, the estimated number of Calories is just a guide and the actual number of Calories burned may vary depending on other factors such as weather and terrain.
