09:30 Commence riding from Bourg d’Oisans (750m) to Alpe d’Huez (Hors cat., 1850m), 12km (approximately 8 miles) of climbing - it will take 1 to 1.25 hours to complete. Continue past the airport to Col de Sarenne (1999m) and enjoy the Glacier de Sarenne. Then descend to the Barage du Chambon: be aware, this is a steep descent, in one location the map indicates 15%.

Turn right for Bourg d’Oisans on the D1091, then after approximately 1km turn right onto a back-road for Auris. Follow the D211A to La Garde and descend the last few hairpins of the Alpe d’Huez road to Bourg d’Oisans (730m, for lunch). This circuit is 46km, approximately 26 miles.
