    Start at Sit Tatton Sykes's Monument/Monument Cottage midway between Sledmere and Garton-on-the-Wolds. From Pock, head towards Garton-on-the-Wolds on the A166 (east of Wetwang), but before you get to the village, a sharp left where Sledmere sign posted. About one and a half miles on your lewft you will see the monument and a track, and monument cottage ans a tiny road off to your right. That is the starting point. The walk goes down that road, past Sledmere Grange on your left, then turn left at the road at the bottom, in half a mile bear right onto a bridleway into Cottam Well Dale. After a mile take a left turning onto another bridleway, then shortly after right onto a footpath. After a mile you can either go straight on as a detour to a dead end (Chalk Pit) or turn right and climb steeply out of Philip's Slack folr half a mile, then turn right, go thorugh Cottam Grange to the Mediaeval Village of Cottam. Ignore the footpath to the left, turn next left onto a Bridleway after the church/ruins/before the woods and Cottam House. Zigzag right left right, then after 1km turn right at crossorads/bridleways., then stright on to road, then striaght on to rejoin the path past Sledmere Grange and back to the start.
