    Starting at Stanford’s Escondido turnaround, this loop begins with a stretch through the picturesque Stanford campus, passing iconic sandstone buildings and lush university landscapes. After warming up on the quieter campus paths, you’ll head toward Palo Alto, gradually moving into residential areas with tree-lined streets and charming neighborhood parks. As you reach the Baylands, the trail transitions to a more natural setting. Here, dirt and boardwalk paths take you through serene coastal wetlands, with panoramic views of the bay and an abundance of birdlife, including egrets, herons, and sandpipers.

    The Baylands segment offers a flat and open path with refreshing breezes off the water, perfect for maintaining a steady pace. After hitting the turnaround point, the loop brings you back along the water, offering a slightly different perspective on the vibrant wetlands as the light shifts throughout your run. Returning to Stanford, the final stretch through campus feels rejuvenating, with plenty of shaded walkways and scenic vistas to close out the loop. This 13-mile route provides a perfect blend of urban and natural scenery, making for a satisfying, scenic long run.
