This one is aimed at meeting F&E at Alison’s in winter and also navigates us around the known floods and better lanes, which means we can easily miss out the Greenway, if we think it could be flooded, by going straight up Hoole Lane to Guildon Sutton

They can do their usual early start and I meet them at Alison’s, then take them on a small hills ride via the easier Harthill & on to Brown knowl, across to Tilston & Wetreins lane.
This way we all do the same route, just half of it on our own and I can start later, near 12, when it is warmer.
This route is susceptible to winds in places, like canal road from Wav ( SW not good of course, but good from Rossette road all the way to Chester.
Rocky lane at Tattenhall has terrible floods these days Winter of 24 ( really bad and the mud in the lane, even if you can ride through is almost as bad as Hollywell lane) Anyway the point of this route is to avoid that and at the same time get some small hills in on an otherwise flat ride Brown knowl and the lovely road to Tilston are good lanes. This whole route is very good quality lanes. The easy Harthill lane is a cracker but can be filthy at times from farmers & occasionally get caught by cows crossing, but not normally in winter for the cows.

This route also useful in particular in winter of 24, as the road all the way up between Farndon and Huntington is being worked on for a year. Currently in Feb 24 they have the top bit closed ( but can still get through on bike at moment. However, we expect it to get very awkward below Aldford when they start there. Until then, we can still get through up to Aldford and turn right to Bruera.

If the wind is stiff SE then it is better to take the shorter option to Bruera and Platt’s lane inti Tattenhall, as there is a cross tailwind from Platt’s lane, where as it would be cross head wind on canal road.

    CALCULATE CALORIES

    About the Calorie Calculator

Our Calorie Calculator estimates how many Calories you will burn using Metabolic Equivalent (MET) values from Compendium of Physical Activities. The Compendium idenitifes the relative energy cost of undertaking various activities compared with doing nothing. We then combine this with your weight and the estimated duration of the activity, taking into account the length of the route and the hills involved, to estimate the total Calories burned.

When selecting an Activity setting, select the speed you would normally travel at on flat ground.

Please remember, the estimated number of Calories is just a guide and the actual number of Calories burned may vary depending on other factors such as weather and terrain.
