This is a nice route and aimed at hard efforts with plenty of options on very scenic quiet lanes and Some gentle hills. Kept short deliberately so good for Paula as well, as we can stop at the Old fire station cafe in Malpas, if needed, unlikely as short ride.
This clockwise version means early small hills, although turn right at the beginning of Harthill, on the first brow ( where I pushed Paula to the top) and on to top of Brown knowl & then a quick descent & on up to the ‘Pod house’.
Being clockwise means it suits SE wind for Dog lane from Malpas. Where as the Anti-clockwise version is excellent for NW wind, as there is good protection on the return from Malpas. Have both on Garmin.

This route can easily be sooped up with light hills and only adding a few miles, especially if a south westerly by heading out through Tattenhall & Carden Park to Tilston, which would add just 2 miles and better route. Can also add in the hilly loop to Pheasent Inn & beyond for another mile or 2 and hilly, via Harthill to make a lovely hilly 28 mile route.
The lanes are good and ok in winter, if the farmers haven’t trashed the lanes.
So I reckon the basic route as is, is a bad weather route, as I am not aware of any bits that can flood.

CALCULATE CALORIES

About the Calorie Calculator

Our Calorie Calculator estimates how many Calories you will burn using Metabolic Equivalent (MET) values from Compendium of Physical Activities. The Compendium idenitifes the relative energy cost of undertaking various activities compared with doing nothing. We then combine this with your weight and the estimated duration of the activity, taking into account the length of the route and the hills involved, to estimate the total Calories burned.

When selecting an Activity setting, select the speed you would normally travel at on flat ground.

Please remember, the estimated number of Calories is just a guide and the actual number of Calories burned may vary depending on other factors such as weather and terrain.
