Caerwys - Ysceifiog

1. From square in Caerwys, turn down Water Street, passing Royal Oak on L. At staggered crossroads continue ahead, signed Trout Farm. Go into fishery, passing buildings on L. Continue over stile ahead, then turn L onto footpath, signed Babell. Climb steep steps.
2. At woodland edge, cross stile ahead. Walk across field to small stile in middle of opposite fence. Continue in same direction across two more fields to road, then turn R and
immediately L onto track. Beyond cottage, turn R where path forks. Continue for 800m, passing cottage on L where track widens (ignore path on L here). Where track bears R,
take footpath L. Cross hidden stile into field, then walk across field to stile in opposite hedge. Continue along RHS of next field, bearing L thro' scrub at far end to cross metal
stile in hedge. Walk diagonally L onto path and follow to road. Turn R along road, R again at crossroads, signed Ysceifiog and Afonwen, then continue along road to T junction.
3. Cross road and walk thro' car park of Black Lion Inn. Go thro' gate at far end of car park. Continue ahead across fields following RH field edge, passing a large farm on R.
Continue in same direction, crossing old stile, until reach small cottage. Go thro' gate and follow cottage drive to road.
4. Turn L, then 10m later turn R uphill and L at next road junction. Turn R onto track opposite “Fairholme”. Continue ahead where cottage drive bears R. Cross stile and walk across next field following R fenceline. Cross next stile into woodland. Follow narrow woodland path to R for 600m, descending to path junction. Take R fork, signed Caerwys.
To detour to Ysceifiog, turn L and follow path down to lakes. Cross footbridge and walk up steep hillside. Cross stile at top and walk on narrow path between houses. Cross next stile and turn L to explore village, before retracing your steps to Caerwys sign. After 15m cross stile and cross field to far L corner. Cross next stile and follow path along
R hedgerow towards farm. Go thro' gate and walk past farmhouse on drive. Go thro’ gate turn R and cross stile on L. Walk diagonally R across field to stile. Cross next field and
stile and continue to road.
5. Turn R along road. After 200m turn L over stile beside Marian Cocaldiad. Walk ahead across field and cross another stile by gate. Half way along next field, cross stile on
L. Turn R then walk diagonally L across large field. At bottom of hill go thro' hidden gate and follow path down RHS of field beside woodland. Cross stile into woodland and
follow path with trout pools on L. Turn L over stile and walk thro' fishery to retrace your steps back to Caerwys Square.
