Thanks Stuart, that's good to hear your positive experience of getting turn instructions from a GPX on a Garmin. And thanks for the offer of help with testing - we may well take you up on that.
Great news! Looking forward to it - shout if you want any technically-savvy beta testers on board :-)
FWIW, different devices handle turn-by-turn differently, but the newer ones (e.g. my own Edge 830) generates them on the fly on the device itself, from an arbitrary GPX when you first start the course. This seems to work well and I suspect Garmin's own interface will decide whether or not a given device needs server-side turn instructions added before being sent.
Thanks Stuart. We will be adding this feature. Please be aware though that it is subject to some limitations, most notable of which is that the directions saved with your route on plotaroute can't be transferred using Garmin's API - instead, Garmin will attempt to generate turn instructions before sending the route to your device.
Another vote for an implementation of Garmin's new API here!
I currently use a combination of GPX exporting and ConnectIQ (using GPXImport/Export) via my phone. It works, but it's hardly smooth so being able to do it all smoothly would be an awesome new feature for your product.
That's a good idea Peder, thanks.
Some sort of connection between this and the "club page" feature that has been suggested earlier.
Fore example you could be able to tag a route both on your private page and your "club page" that would then sync with your Garmin device as per below. (you would get a lot of new members this way :-)
Thanks for sharing the Garmin news. We'll have a look at this. We'd definitely like to add this capability to the site if possible.
Garmin's announcement on the API.

This would be nice, but only if it includes my virtual partner, adjusted for hills, settings.
Even better would be to add the same funtionality as Strava and Komoot does https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2020/05/garmin-launches-strava-komoot-route-sync-works-on-devices-a-decade-old.html

Thanks for this suggestion. We've added it to our Feature Requests list where anyone interested in it can vote for it.
