    Currently StreetView always open in a window, I would like the ability to open it in a new tab instead.

    I think the simplest way is to make middle-clicking the StreetView "link" open in a new tab like a real link would (currently there's no auxclick/mouseup/etc handler so nothing happens on middle-clicks).
