    Hi there,

I use Plotaroute a lot for gravel cycling in our area of SE Sweden. It's mostly OK, though sometimes leads me to tracks that don't exist, and resolutely insists that excellent gravel roads that do exist, don't.

I need to reroute a few sections of a ride I did yesterday, but I'm coming against technial issues.

So I tried reshaping the route by using the 'drag an anchor function'. As this route is fairly long and involves going out to a point and then returning along a slightly different route, it shortens the route from 102km to 42km. All I'm trying to do is replot about 1km.

So then I tried replotting the section. You drag the green cursor along the length and then it asks you to confirm to replot, only the confirm button doesn't exist.

Then I tried deleting that section, in the hope of replotting. So I selected the section to delete, clicked delete, but it doesn't do anything. The button doesn't work.

I'm at my wits end now and considering using another plotting program. I like the way Plotaroute synchs to Garmin automatically, but it seems to be beset with technical issues and it not recognising a lot of local roads is also very wearing.

    Help is much appreciated!

    Hi Jonathan,

It;'s generally easiest to use the Reshape Route tool for most editing needs. If you only want to edit a 1km section, you need to add an anchor point at the start and end of this section first, to ensure that none of the route before and after this is changed, Then  you can add further anchor points between the first two and drag these as needed.

There is a demo in our video tutorial on Editing Routes that you might find helpful.

We also have a short demo video that shows how to use this tool with on mobile site.

    "not reecognising local roads"

I Believe Plotaroute uses "OpenStreetMap (OSM) a free, open geographic database updated and maintained by a community of volunteers via open collaboration."

If roads are not recognised, then you may have to assist OSM by updating the mapping ...

    For example, see Road Closure

Hi I am trying to plot a route up Cime de la Bonette in the Alps tackling the climb from the south leaving Saint-Etienne-de-Tinée. I get to a bridge an the plottting tool will not allow me to go any further and reroutes me. Is this because its currently January and the road is closed for Winter. Its smart if that is the case but my ride is not till June, can I set the plottting tool to ignore current conditions .

Plotaroute uses open source mapping data. I don't believe you can override this. The simple solution is to turn auto routing OFF and click on the other side of the bridge, then turn auto routing back on and carry on plotting

I keep getting this message when trying to replot a section.  Can anyone help?  Sorry - we were unable to auto-plot to this point. Please try again or turn off the Auto-Plot switch.
