is there a way to put a marker at the measured point so I can continue with the next 15 miles

Hi Ed - you can use the position slider above the map in the route planner to see the distance at any point on the route.  You can also use the Measure Section tool from the route planner toolbar to measure the length of any section of the route. 

Trying to measure 15 mile increments to a 500 mile route.  How can I do this?
