Popular Routes
Opps, can't as I am not currently a Premium member. I had been planning to to join if I had been able to combile routes as I wanted. I know I can join and cancel within two weeks.
Interesting, I'll have a play. Thanks.
Hi,
I had a similar problem. I created a rather long route, in which a small part in the middle couldn't be autoplotted because there is no trail on the map. However, I found a GPX file for this part online. As clarified below, it is not possible to insert a route directly somewhere in the middle of an existing route. The workaround I used now is;
- split the current route into 3 new routes (Split route function), splitting at the start and end point of where the new part should come
- Make sure you have saved the part you want to add as a route
- Create a new route using the 'combine routes function', and add the first part of the existing route, add the new route, add the last part of the existing route
I do not fully understand your situation Henry_g, but maybe this can help
Thank you for the clarification.
It's not possble to combine these two circular routes in the way you want, as they start in different locations. The Combine Routes tool appends one route onto the end of another, so the second route needs to start near the end of the first route. What you're trying to do is insert one route into the middle of another and I'm afraid we don't have a tool to do this. You could use the Reshape Route tool to add the extension but it wouldn't take very long to replot it from scratch - you can use the Trace Route tool to add the routes to the background map so you can see trace over them when replotting.
If you are able to access my routes, the two are "Test 2" & "Merge".
Hopefully, it's my lack of familiarity rather than it being "a bust" - sorry for that phrase.
If you let us know the two routes you're trying to combine we'll have a look at it to see why it's not working.
Thank you but that didn't work. Nor did moving the start and/or end points, shortening the route, or replanning it. Seems to me that "combine routes" is a bust!
I don't fully understand the scenario but try combining them with the Auto-Plot switch turned off to see if this helps.
When I combine 2 circular routes (created as a test so that one loop passes through the start and end of the other circular route) the end point of the combined route is moved to that of the second route; an extra lap of route of the first route being created.
So instead two 8 mile loops combining into one of 16 miles, it ended up as 24 miles.
