Great, glad it's an improvement. 

You've hit the nail on the head when you said "excess configurability is the enemy of a good UI". Sometimes adding more configuration settings can end up making things more complex for the majority just to offer flexibility for the minority, though it obviously depends on the circumstances.

However there is another issue here - Garmin's API doesn't actually support coursepoints with turn arrows, so we're not able to send the directional coursepoints anyway (we're limited to sending "generic" coursepopints that won't display a turn arrow), so it's probably not worth us offering this as an option until Garmin's API can cater for this.

I know excess configurability is the enemy of a good UI, but perhaps the other case (of the Garmin devices that need course points because they don't calculate their own turn warnings) could be covers with a user facing option?

We've gone ahead and altered our Garmin Sync process so that it now doesn't include coursepoints for turns in the directions. Hopefully this will avoid any conflict with Garmin creating its own turn notifications. We'll trial this for a while. We're still sending coursepoints for any labels and symbols you've added to the directions though.

Garmin will try to generate coursepoints for turns at their end, but this doesn't seem to happen for all devices. At present, the Garmin API doesn't allow us to send turns to them anyway, so we currently have to send coursepoints with no turn arrows. It might be better if we didn't send these at all, as it's a bit of a fudge and it sounds like it's creating undesirable results. However, we also send coursepoints for any custom labels or symbols you've added too, so these would probably be useful to still send.

As per the title, it would be good to have an option to not include plotaroutes turn directions with routes syncd to Garmin connect. I think most Garmin devices produce their own turn notifications (all of mine do) so the plotaroute generated ones conflict.
