Popular Routes
I think you have thewatch configured for Use map routing and that can take forever if you have. Configure activity (run or hike) settings, Routing, Courses = Follow course.
Trying to import track to Garmin Fenix 6.
Watch calculates several minutes. Then shows error message: There are no roads on the map for track.
How can I make this work?
GPX Track files include all the coordinates that make up the route, whereas GPX Route files will only include coordinates for the locations where there are directions, so it is generally better to use GPX Track if you want the route to exactly match what you plotted.
Hi Sir,
I am using Garmin Edge 1030. I know the recommended file format (.fit) for Garmin 800, 1000, 1030. Just wondering if I want to use "GPX" , which gpx type is better use "track" or "route" specially in the field (terrain, hill, mountain) ? Thanks...
well
We don't currently import turn arrows from TCX files - our turn arrows are generated from the shape of the imported route. If you want to change any of the turn arrows though, you can do this in the Directions panel in the route planner (click on the directions to edit them).
Hi,
Tks but turns are not coming correct.
If I upolad one same file to RWGPS all turns turn correctly including the icon.
Funny though because it used to work in the past. I had even create a compatible chart back than.
Those Garmin codes come from the ANTSDKFitSDK.

We've found the problem that caused the upload to fail and have put in a fix, so it should be working OK now. There were some hidden characters in some of the coursepoint notes, that we weren't detecting.
We've received the file you sent us Marcos, thanks. We've managed to recreate the problem you had uploading it, so we ll look into it and report back. Our import process won't exactly recreate a downloaded route though I'm afraid, as we store routes on our servers in a completley different format. Also, at present it doesn't support importing symbols.
Forgot to mention that I also imported the same file to RWGPS and all turns and symbols appeared correct there.
Regards.
In addition to I did a test exporting a route as .tcx from Plotaroute than deleting the master and than importing it back to Plotaroute.
By my surprise several turns were modified and all symbols were gonne.
That is odd.
Hi guys,
Thanks in advance. I've just sent the tcx file, a Plotaroute PrtScr error message and a RWGPS PrtScr with the same file normally uploaded with the cuesheet etc.
Hi Marcos,
Importing coursepoints as directions is only supported with TCX files - for FIT files only the route will be imported.
TCX files should import OK if they contain valid trackpoints. You can have a look at the contents of the file using any text editor. It's hard to know why they won't import without seeing the files. You can send us an example of one that fails if you like using our Contact Us page under the menus.
Is it possible to provide the files in some way?
Then maybe it's possible to look into them and see what's causing your problem.
Could someone help, please?
I have trying to import some fit/tcx files with turns that I know exist because I can see them at ridewithgps but not at Plotaroute.
Also there some tcx files that Plotaroute says to be invalid but ridewithgps opens them normally.
Thank you,
I have checked a number of routes generated by Plotaroute (using that FitCSVTool.jar utility) and some do not have TBT notifications. Which is why the 6x never showed them. So it looks like the 6x is doing what it should. The issue seems to be why some routes are not generated without TBT from PlotaRoute. The routes I am having troubles with (and have hiked) were generated some weeks ago, before the current plotaroute version. ie before the new warning points, etc. I selected 1 route that I actually hiked last weekend. No TBT shown. Using that Fit File Repair tool (thanks for that link), it shows 3 TBT right at the very start. 2 had exactly the same Lat/Lon and the last one was 0.05km out. I would have missed those as I was starting off. I then loaded this same route into the course editor in plotaroute and just tweaked one point, causing the route to be regenerated. Then exported that as a FIT. There are now 29 course points and it all looks correct. So whatever was causing the TBT to not be generated, it seems to have been fixed in plotaroute. I think I need to check the "Directions" option in plotaroute before saving or exporting. That way I can see if all is correct. So all looks good. Thanks for your help.
Kerry, I also answered you in the Garmin forum https://forums.garmin.com/outdoor-recreation/outdoor-recreation/f/fenix-6-series/206574/no-turn-by-turn-notifications-when-hiking-walking-activity/970516#970516, but can you share some links to routes here at plotaroute and I can give them a try in Fit file repair tool and share the result.
I also have a 6x and it's handling my plotaroute fit files without problems.
Hi Kerry - Sorry, I don't know the answer to that one. We're not aware of any issues with coursepoints in FIT files downloaded from plotaroute, so it could be a problem with the Fenix. A good tool to use to inspect the contents of FIT files is the Fit File Repair Tool.
Just tried exporting as TCX file, and that seems to work. In GPXSee I can now see the TBT notifications. Is there a problem with the FIT export, perhaps?
I have a Garmin Fenix 6x and am having troubles getting Turn by Turn (TBT) notifications. One route worked out of 4 or 5 attempted. Not sure why just that one. I simply export as FIT and copy it into the special folder on the Garmin device.I would dearly love to use a FIT file viewer and see what is in the files generated here. I have tried GPXSee but that does not show any TBT notifications. Is there another viewer that you can recommend? One thing I noticed is that you export a route as a track. ie you insert dates and times for some reason. This is from a route that I have just plotted in the Route Planner. There should be no dates or times. It does not really matter, but it seems it is confusing some software. When I import the FIT file into Basecamp or GPXSee it thinks it is a track. Perhaps that is why TBT notifications are not used? There is a Cue list in the route, so your Route Planner is doing that bit ok.It could certainly be me and/or the Garmin device, but if you have any suggestions?
