Popular Routes
We'll need to look into that Stephan. I can't immediately think of any reason why that is not at least technically possible. We'll take a look.
TCX and FIT is not available for my Coros watch :-(
Will this also be available for gpx tracks or are there technical limitations?
It looks like this was a temporary problem with my watch or with the route itself. I loaded a new one with shifted directions and restarted my watch before the run. During the activity, I received vibrate notifications about every turn.
I think the watch just had a bad day, but I need to check the previous route to be sure.
Maybe add that the route was downloaded yesterday with 15 m shifted back directions.
I ran a 24k yesterday with a lot of tbt's with my fenix6x. No prob here.
Do you have system-> vibration = on?
I have shifted all directions back 15m and loaded my route to the Garmin Fenix 5 plus watch. I see all TBT notification arrows on the screen but the watch doesn't vibrate anymore on those course points. I wonder what is the reason for this? Have anyone meet something like that?
This is a big help as my Garmin Edge 830 tends to give directions late when compared to my old Edge 810.
Love it.
Thanks for checking this out Peter. Glad it worked ok! We could possibly reduce the range of the Shift Directions slider slightly to make it easier to select lower values on a mobile device - we'll look at doing that when we next make changes to the relevant sections of the site.
Tested yesterday.
It worked really great. Big thank you.
It's a bit tricky though, to set the right shift meter value on a mobile. The slider is short, so the lower end values are not so easy to reach. I would like to change the value depending on foreseen tree coverage and pace, 10-40 m. Open space and lower pace get me lower lag and vice versa.
I have a Fenix 6x and it gives great pre-warnings - about 30m ahead of the turn and then at the turn itself. This is when I am hiking. I guess this would be pretty useless if you are travelling at speed. But I agree that this is a great option.
Wahoo, awesome!
It's so great for my lagging Garmin fenix 5x/6x.
I've been totaly dependent of the built in pre-warnings, cause standard tbt always are 20-30 m behind. This is something many Garmin watch users would appreciate.
We're very pleased to announce another great new feature that we've just introduced - Shift Route Directions. This new feature will be useful for anyone who wants to download routes in TCX or FIT format, so that they can be used with GPS devices for route navigation.
The Shift Route Directions feature moves all route directions back by a small distance, so that alerts appear before reaching a turn or waypoint. This can give you more time to prepare for manoeuvres, particularly if you're cycling quite fast! It's available as an option when you download a route in a course file format. With the addition of this new feature, you can now choose between two different approaches to warn you of approaching turns and waypoints:
Turn Warnings - adds an additional course point a set distance before any turn
Shift Directions - shifts all directions back by a set distance (doesn't require additional course points).
As some GPS devices have a limit on the number of course points they will accept, the Shift Route Directions feature offers a useful way to get early warnings of approaching turns without adding extra course points. It also avoids any potential confusion caused by alerts both ahead of a junction and when you arrive at it, particularly if your device is slow at reacting to changes in your GPS position.
The idea for this new feature came from a discussion on our forums, so thanks for suggesting this - we think it's a great idea and we hope you'll find it useful.
