I download a route to my phone and view it with gpx viewer (cause i'm often out of cell coverage)

I have all these round points on the route.  i reduced them but i still have 163 for a 30 mile route.  they get in the way of me viewing my route.  how do i get rid of them?  I am not sure what there purpose is?

That sounds like a feature of the gpx viewer app you're using.  You're probably better contacting the app provider to find out why they create the point markers that you want to get rid of. There may be a setting in their app.
