Yes, any directions you delete would not be included in the file when you download the route.  If you combine directions the text will be merged and it will use the turn arrow of the first of the two directions being combined.

I would recommend deleting any directions that are not turns and combinign nearby ones.

If i delete course points i assume this reduces the directions given when downloaded to Garmin?

What would happen if i combined a left turn with a right turn? Will both directions still be downloaded for FIT file type?

Any recommendations on what course points I should combine?

Hi Alan - you can do this by deleting or combinng directions.  Click on DIR'NS to open the Directions panel in the route planner while editing the route and then click the MANAGE button above the list of directions.

Can someone help me figure out how to change the amount of course points on my routes?

Our charity cycle routes exceed the 200 course point limt.
