    https://www.plotaroute.com/tip/22/how-to-add-labels-and-symbols-to-a-route-map

But how to add Labels and Symbols on the mobile gps (app) ?

By use of gpx <name><cmt><desc> AND <sym>text many compatible gps (or app) do display Garmin Icons. (Unsupported <sym> by the mobile gps (app) are replaced by a default Icon)

Request: Add the standard Garmin Icon (popular) range by <sym>text into Plotaroute Symbols.

    Symbols: http://www.javawa.nl/wpsymbols.html

Hi Willy - I don't think we would be able to offer the full range of Garmin symbols, but we could look at using Garmin symbols that match our existing symbols rather than always using the default symbol for each waypoint. As mentioned in my reply to your other post, I'll see if we can do this as part of the changes we're making at the moment.

Hi John, sure understand, and absolutely agree with your point of view.

Even Garmin hardware do not support the full range symbol list ;-)

    Info: http://www.javawa.nl/wpsymbols.html

Locus map support most of the Garmin Icon list.

    See picture.

Unsupported <sym> are displayed by the default "Red Down Arrow".

Route Planner function > Select a symbol to use > Plotaroute 'Mountain".

In tcx download PointType "Summit" is correctly set.

In gpx download sym "Summit" is not set. (Flag, Blue)

(Gpx sym "Summit" is supported by Garmin).

Suggest to add additional best match Garmin tcx_fit PointType & gpx sym support that do correspond with existing Plotaroute Icons.

Find in the greyed cells in attached picture.

Thanks for the suggestion Willy, but we're not planning on making any more changes to downloads for a while I'm afraid, as we want to focus on some other areas.

Can we add our own symbols to maps?

Sorry, we don't have an option to import your own symbols, however you can add custom labels.

If you add symbols before plotting a route the symbols disapear:-(

Is there some way  to save the symbols without having to do a route plot ?

No, sorry Scott, you'll need to plot a route to save to be able to save anything.

How do you save symbols added to the map that are not plotted directly on the route.  ie after saving the route, how to recover the off route waypoints?

I have symbols on a map which I wanted to use whilst on the move but they do not appear when following the route on my bike. Did I read somewhere that they wont work whilst the map is in use?
