Popular Routes
Hi Martyn - I think I've found the problem and put in a fix. Hopefully it'll be OK next time you try it (it worked OK for me when I tested it here).
John
I'll have a look into this - thanks Martyn.
John,
I've now found occasion to use the 'Join routes' feature once more. At first all seemed to be OK but I'm now aware of something that's not quite right.
The photos come across when printing the directions but not in a couple of other contexts:
If you want an example, look at: https://www.plotaroute.com/route/434895
I created this route by joining two others and then deleting the start and end of the combined result to create a new route.
The pictures linked to in directions 7 and 14 were carried over from the previous routes (and don't appear in the listed contexts) while all of the other photos have been added directly to the newly created route and are as expected.
Martyn
Thanks John. I'm just back after a time away. I'll give this a try again and pay particular attention to the photos when I next have two routes to join.
A fix has now been applied for this issue.
Yes, agreed. There are pros and cons and this result of the design decision only becomes apparent, as far as I can see, in this one context where routes are combined.
OK, thanks for the clarification Martyn. I'll look into this and post back when it's been fixed.
With regard to storing photos under your account rather than with each route, I think there are pros and cons with each approach, but the current approach of storing photos with the route was a key decision that was made at the design stage and so it would be very hard to change this now.
Yes, it's that photos from the route being appended are not being copied across to the enlarged route.
I've subsequently noted that any labels that were present in the appended route are not appearing in the combined route (although the symbols come across.)
If the photos were in a kind of 'pool' so that I could reattach them to the combined route, it would not be too bad, but it seems that photos are assoicated with a specific route and can only be accessed from that route (i.e., photos can't be shared across routes... or have I missed something?) Coincidentally, I'm close to my broadband data limit this month so was not really wanting to upload the same photos all over again. It will also multiply the space they occupy on the server.
Ideally, everything associated with both routes should remain in place when routes are combined, i.e., directions, labels, symbols and photos.
Hi Martyn - I've just carried out some tests with this and can't recreate the problem with the photos being lost when using the Combine Routes feature. There is a problem in that any photos saved with the route being attached are not being copied into the new merged route, but the photos saved with the original route are still there. Have I misunderstood the problem or is it just that photos from the route being appended are not being copied across to the enlarged route?
Thanks for flagging this up Martyn. If you reload your original route hopefully the photos should still be there. I'll have a look into why they are not showing after using the Join Routes feature and post back once we've sorted this out.
I've just used the 'Join' feature for the first time to combine two sequential routes into one. It combines the routes on the map just fine, concatenates the directions and includes any labels/symbols but all of the photos I had added have disappeared.
