Popular Routes
hey, john … thanks for the reply. think, with the next attempt, i will try creating the points manually (no auto-point). and, since a navigator only needs decisions when there is a "fork in the road" … that's where my points will be applied (at junctions). best wishes.
Hi - I've tried to recreate the problem you had here using your route but without success, so I think it must have been a spurious glitch.
It is normal for routes of that length to have that many points, as the auto-plot feature will follow the curvature of the roads, but it is possible to to eleminate some redundant points with vitually no loss of accuracy.

update:created new route … this time, chose to not enable "reduce points" … route saved successfully … this time with only 11242 points plotted. lol … maybe i am doing something wrong … is it normal to have so many points to such a small plot? anyway … the url for the route is: plotaroute.com/route/451355ummm … would have revised my original post by including this update … but couldn't find any "edit" feature … thanks.
browser: 54.0.1 (64-bit) … abp and ghostery addons running … java-script and flash not running.win-10 (64-bit) cu … intel cpuummm … new member here (obviously). plotted course … kept that webpage open to save course … created/activated plotaroute.com account … interface opened for saving route … and the following transpired (in detail):
the route was only from pagadian(phils) to davao-city … 236 miles total … 11.5k points drawn? seriously?anyway … i agreed to reduce points … within matter of seconds, browser-alert appeared … with regard to java-script running … i clicked "cancel" … from that point on, your plotting program seemed to get caught in loop … been 43 minutes and no change to blue animated "reducingpoints" button.one other point to mention … while in the loop, i double-checked how many characters i placed in the "about" category … maximum allowed suppposed to be 1000char … i had 1512char total within that field. no error stating "can only be 1500char!" .so … the loop could have been induced by the char-limit in the about-field … but, probably it was in the java-script entitlement. seems caught in a loop … ended up trashing the route … thanks anyway.
lastly … i extended courtesy by including screen-cap … pj.
Thanks John!
Hi Rob, there isn't a way to directly access this at present - this option is ony displayed when saving a route qwith 3000 points or more. I'll reduce this threshold to 1000 when we implement the next upgrade (probably in the next couple of weeks), so that should hopefully help.
Is it possible to force the running of the reduce points feature, on a course that is relatively short already?
It would be useful for smoothing out a course where I have done lots of clicking in close vicinity
Thanks Rob
The Reduce Points feature is not dependent on the length of the route be the number of coordinates that make up the route. It is offered as an option if the routes has more than a given number of points.
Quite often, when I come to save a route I have plotted, the warning to reduce points comes up.
I understand what I need to do, but I do not totally understand why this happens. For example, I have plotted a route of 121km before the reduce points marker came up. The next route was over very similar terrain but I could only plot 51km before the reduce points warning came up.
Could you explain this please?
