I forgot to say, in answer to the other question below, you can see the grade percentage by hovering your mouse over the route line when the colour coding is switched on.

Hi Pierre - Yes, this has now been implemented.  There are further details in this news post: Colouring Routes to Highlight Hills

Great idea. I see that the feature I suggested appears as implemented, but last time I used plot a route (last weekend) I did not see it, so not sure what th exact status is...

I suggest to put grade in percentage alongside those sections in red or green to indicate steepiness. This is because its hard to differentiate colours.

Perhaps this can be solved by legend such as dark red=7 to 10%, lime green=-5 to -10% ranges or by providing spectrum of colours according to gradient to have visual glance of the hill. I like to judge steepiness in numbers so my main suggestion to quantity the colour in ranges.

Thanks for the suggestion.  I've added it to the Feature Requests list (number 44), so if anyone would like to see this feature developed please vote for it on there.  We already have a setting where you can choose the colour of the route line, so there would probably need to be some way of switching the gradient colouring on and off, as I don't think we would want to colour-code the route by default.

    Hello,

It would be nice to have a feature to automatically color the route in a color where the route is uphill, and another one when it is downhill.

It could be even fancier with the color becoming darker when the road becomes steeper

    Greetings from the French Alps!
