    Hi John,

Thanks for the information - I'll give that a go. I think that would definitely be a useful feature if you are able to implement it.

Hi Robert - We don't yet have a facility to download routes as 'GPX Routes' rather than 'GPX Tracks' but I'll add this to the feature request list and see if we can do this fairly soon.  In the meantime, you could download the route as a GPX Track file and convert it to a GPX Route file using a free tool like GPS Utility.  These are the instructions for doing this in GPS Utility:

    1. Download your route as a GPX file from plotaroute.com.

    2. Launch GPS Utility and open the downloaded GPX file.

    3. Select "Waypoints" from the View menu.

    4. Select "Select All" from the Records menu.

    5. Select "Insert in Route" from the Tools menu.

    6. Click the "All" button.

    7. Select "Routes" from the View menu.

    8. Double click on the route shown to see all the converted waypoints and change the name of the route and the speed setting if you wish then click Save and OK.

    9. Select "Save/Export Options" from the File menu.

    10. Untick "Waypoints" and "Tracks" in the "Save/Export/Print What" section and click Close.

    11. Select "Save As" from the File menu to save your GPX Route file.

    Hope this helps.

    John

    Hi,

I have a Garmin eTrex 30 onto which I've loaded the openstreetmap data from http://talkytoaster.co.uk/maps/ which works quite nicely.

I've tried plotting a route on plotaroute and saving the gpx file in GARMIN/GPX but it appears as a "track" rather than as a "route". I can have the map on the display and follow the purple line, but it would be nice to be able to use the turn by turn navigation which I think would be possible if it were a route.

I've also tried the export function on mapmyride and get similar results. If I export a gpx file from Bing it does appear as a route but since Bing seems to lack any routing features it's not that useful.

It would be good to know if this is the expected behaviour (I suspect not) and if not if anyone has any ideas of what I could do about it.

    Thanks,

    Rob
