Alex Knob Track in Franz Josef. Approximately 15/16 km of walking. Mostly climbing uphill, starting with a moderate gravel path on a simple incline. Fairly soon the path turns to a dirt track and becomes much steeper, with some climbing over rocks and trees, navigating loose rocks and tree stumps, stooping beneath branches, and walking next to steep cliffs. Overall, the path was decently marked and moderate to difficult. A total ascend of about 1000 meters. Beautiful glacier views from the two viewpoints and a stunning view on the glacier from Alex Knob peak. Temperate weather for winter time and lots of sunshine with some cloud during the hike. Cloudy at the top but lucky to have a few clear moments for stunning views of the glacier and the surrounding mountains. Total hiking time, 6 hours of the recommended 8 hours return.
