This route is a modified version of the “ rivers and small climbs rout of 39 miles south, which was
aimed at very scenic country lanes and as many river crossings as I could with a few small climbs. The only,on route, cafe stop is Farndon & Holt, both ideal depending on direction ridden
This version cuts out the really nice southern river crossing, below Threapwood, because of the steep- ish gravel lane, after the river, which is fine for a gravel bike and only cuts out 2 miles.
(Not uploaded to Garmin yet.) both cafes close at 4:30

This route is easy to shorten and alter, in several places, on good lanes as well. So if I had to choice only 1 of my routes to cater to all my cycling needs, it would be this one, because, with simple diversion, you can make the route very different, be it in length, scenery or total assent and the changes are straight forward in most cases.
The route can be completed with average fitness without a cafe stop, except deep winter, when you need a break just to warm up.
By simply cutting up through Shotlache or Tilston, you can make it 25 mile or 30 mile ride and still avoid A roads. There are shorter changes that have more effect on scenerery and hills, so loads of scope. Shortening the route through Tilston and CP Is good for the generally prevailing south westerly winds, which if stiff, means riding clockwise. Even the long stretch up to Alford is fairly protected from westerly or Easterly winds.

About the Calorie Calculator

Our Calorie Calculator estimates how many Calories you will burn using Metabolic Equivalent (MET) values from Compendium of Physical Activities. The Compendium idenitifes the relative energy cost of undertaking various activities compared with doing nothing. We then combine this with your weight and the estimated duration of the activity, taking into account the length of the route and the hills involved, to estimate the total Calories burned.

When selecting an Activity setting, select the speed you would normally travel at on flat ground.

Please remember, the estimated number of Calories is just a guide and the actual number of Calories burned may vary depending on other factors such as weather and terrain.
