Start at Woods Corner car park - BH24 4HW. There are about 6 spaces here, but there is more car parking at Oakley further up Lyndhurst Road.

This route goes on and off track. If you are happy to go off track in the peace and quiet of the forest, then walking boots are recommended for the odd muddy area. If you are happy to amend the route and remain on track, then trainers will do.

NOTE - for the first four miles of this walk (and the last four), you will be lucky to receive a mobile phone signal! Don't worry as you set off, just stick the the track, going straight on all the way, until you reach the Canadian War Memorial at the top of the walk (4G signal - yay!). However, you may wish to download a PDF of this walk to be safe and make use of Google Maps GPS location on your phone.

When you reach the War Memorial, come back down the road to the Deer Sanctuary where the deer can be seen grazing and often you can get close up to them. When I walked this route in early June, I actually saw more deer in the forest whilst walking, than when I reached the sanctuary.

The return route comes down the Jubilee Trail in the Deer Sanctuary and then you rejoin the main track at the bridge over Bratley Water (marker post number 107). After you cross the bridge, we go off track, but if it is wet or you would rather return by the main track, just retrace your steps.

About the Calorie Calculator

Our Calorie Calculator estimates how many Calories you will burn using Metabolic Equivalent (MET) values from Compendium of Physical Activities. The Compendium idenitifes the relative energy cost of undertaking various activities compared with doing nothing. We then combine this with your weight and the estimated duration of the activity, taking into account the length of the route and the hills involved, to estimate the total Calories burned.

When selecting an Activity setting, select the speed you would normally travel at on flat ground.

Please remember, the estimated number of Calories is just a guide and the actual number of Calories burned may vary depending on other factors such as weather and terrain.
