The walk takes you from Cocking Church to Heyshott Church, before climbing up to the South Downs Way for views over the weald and the villages where the churches nestle at the foot of the hills. It is then a downhill walk back to Cocking where refreshments can be found at the Blue Bell pub, or the village shop. There are car parking lay-bys in Cocking village, or the walk starts and finishes on the route of the No.60 Stagecoach Bus (Chichester-Midhurst) for those who prefer public transport. A mix of quiet country lanes, and public footpaths including the New Lipchis Way and the South Downs Way. A shorter walk avoiding the hill climb can be achieved by retracing the first half of the route along the lanes when returning from Heyshott. Full route 4.3miles/7km (shorter route avoiding hill 3.5miles/5.6km).

About the Calorie Calculator

Our Calorie Calculator estimates how many Calories you will burn using Metabolic Equivalent (MET) values from Compendium of Physical Activities. The Compendium idenitifes the relative energy cost of undertaking various activities compared with doing nothing. We then combine this with your weight and the estimated duration of the activity, taking into account the length of the route and the hills involved, to estimate the total Calories burned.

When selecting an Activity setting, select the speed you would normally travel at on flat ground.

Please remember, the estimated number of Calories is just a guide and the actual number of Calories burned may vary depending on other factors such as weather and terrain.
