Ladywell Convent - Circular History Walk

This circular history walk starts and ends at Ladywell Convent. It is just over 3 miles long and celebrates the history of the convent and the neighbouring area. Before setting off, obtain a code from the convent office which will enable you to exit via the back gate.
The walk passes through the convent grounds which are not open to the general public. A similar walk avoiding the private areas is available on the Plotaroute website:
https://www.plotaroute.com/route/2029381?units=miles
Many of the paths are surfaced but those that are not may be uneven in places. Please leave 3 or 4 minutes at each stop to read the history and look to see what you can see. You may wish to leave longer to visit Busbridge Church. The whole walk will probably occupy between two and two and a half hours.
Few of the locations on this walk are routinely open to the public although St John's Church is often open during the day when there are no services. Several other locations have occasional 'open days' so look out for announcements on social media or in the local press if you would like to visit these. (Note that Minster Field, location B, is closed to the public on 21st December each year.)

A note about references
The material for this history walk has been drawn from many sources. Books, pamphlets, and on-line sources have all been used and can provide further reading if you are inspired to find out more. Godalming Library has a good local history section. The walk is intended to be a fun introduction to the local history, not a 'learned work', and so I have not filled it with lots of references. If you are an author or owner of any of the pictures and feel that I have not properly credited your work, please let me know. I am also pleased to receive corrections or additional information.

About the Calorie Calculator

Our Calorie Calculator estimates how many Calories you will burn using Metabolic Equivalent (MET) values from Compendium of Physical Activities. The Compendium idenitifes the relative energy cost of undertaking various activities compared with doing nothing. We then combine this with your weight and the estimated duration of the activity, taking into account the length of the route and the hills involved, to estimate the total Calories burned.

When selecting an Activity setting, select the speed you would normally travel at on flat ground.

Please remember, the estimated number of Calories is just a guide and the actual number of Calories burned may vary depending on other factors such as weather and terrain.
