This is the best longer ride into Westerly winds, I can make, as I use the Greenway right through to Shotton. This then means the route has cross tailwinds all the way home from Shotton.
This is a very specific route and the Shotton aspect is not used in any other route. This is purely to creat some way of riding in stiff full westerly wind. The Greenway has provides superb protection from Westerly wind, even the exposed section still has some cover.
The cafe stop is the Pursuit cafe ( old Gallery cafe)
This route also takes I. The full length of Marford hill and out to Borras via the traffic lights after AJ’s. This is because a Westerly wind is completely prevented going up Marford hill, due to the ridge line on the right. It also means that once at Borras it is a fast down hill with the wind into Holt
This route also has the same return route as the start, which is because it was devised to get around the floods around Tattenhall. Both Frog lane and Rocky lane are flooded badly, which means there is no way for me to cross the A41 or head East hence, Aldersey. The route also means we have to take the alternative & slightly longer climb up out of Hawarden, by passing our usual short cut up to the bridge crossing over the A55. This does mean we have to negotiate the big roundabout, as the only way to get us over the A55 and back to the bridge crossing. It only adds 1/4 mile.
The route through Shotton up to Hawarden is fairly good to be fair.

About the Calorie Calculator

Our Calorie Calculator estimates how many Calories you will burn using Metabolic Equivalent (MET) values from Compendium of Physical Activities. The Compendium idenitifes the relative energy cost of undertaking various activities compared with doing nothing. We then combine this with your weight and the estimated duration of the activity, taking into account the length of the route and the hills involved, to estimate the total Calories burned.

When selecting an Activity setting, select the speed you would normally travel at on flat ground.

Please remember, the estimated number of Calories is just a guide and the actual number of Calories burned may vary depending on other factors such as weather and terrain.
