Stage 6 of the GM Ringway, Greater Manchester's long-distance walking route, includes a fantastic mix of varied scenery.

Highlights include:
- The hamlet of Brook Bottom with its traditional country pub
- An exploration of Mellor Moor, a high plateau with stunning Peak District views
- Mellor village, with its Iron Age archeological site and church with the oldest wooden pulpit in England
- The 'Roman Lakes', a Victorian beauty spot
- The famous flight of locks at Marple.

There are two fairly steep ascents, notably the final part of the ascent to Mellor Moor, and the climb, largely up steps, after crossing the 'Roman Bridge' across the River Goyt. Apart from that, most paths are level or downhill. Mud and puddles are likely on certain sections.

About the Calorie Calculator

Our Calorie Calculator estimates how many Calories you will burn using Metabolic Equivalent (MET) values from Compendium of Physical Activities. The Compendium idenitifes the relative energy cost of undertaking various activities compared with doing nothing. We then combine this with your weight and the estimated duration of the activity, taking into account the length of the route and the hills involved, to estimate the total Calories burned.

When selecting an Activity setting, select the speed you would normally travel at on flat ground.

Please remember, the estimated number of Calories is just a guide and the actual number of Calories burned may vary depending on other factors such as weather and terrain.
