The Tent Ridge Horseshoe trail is a moderately challenging hike that users enjoy completing clockwise for more of an easy hike, and counter-clockwise as challenge. While the scrambling section up to Tent Ridge summit is between beginner to intermediate level, there is quite a bit of elevation to it. Because this trail does have a significant amount of rock and scramble, users do not recommend bringing animals or small children. Additionally, for those afraid of heights, this is a trail to help conquer fears, but also to be expecting that it is okay to stop and head back down if it becomes too scary.

When the trail reaches the weather station and past it, there is a drop and then a 200 metre climb to the top of the next section. If users are sure-footed, fleet-footed and feeling particularly indefatigable, there are quite a few fun sections of rock-hopping and trail-running along the ridge. The out-of-this-world views are very distracting though, so make sure to pause and stand to enjoy the view rather than gawking and walking at the same time. The always striking Mount Assiniboine can be seen from the ridge too.

Users highly recommend hiking poles for extra stability, especially for the down trek, which involves some scree skiing in the cooler months. Also, please invest in proper hiking shoes or boots if not already! In winter, this trail is considered backcountry and an avalanche hazard exists and this trail can occasionally be closed due to bear activity.

About the Calorie Calculator

Our Calorie Calculator estimates how many Calories you will burn using Metabolic Equivalent (MET) values from Compendium of Physical Activities. The Compendium idenitifes the relative energy cost of undertaking various activities compared with doing nothing. We then combine this with your weight and the estimated duration of the activity, taking into account the length of the route and the hills involved, to estimate the total Calories burned.

When selecting an Activity setting, select the speed you would normally travel at on flat ground.

Please remember, the estimated number of Calories is just a guide and the actual number of Calories burned may vary depending on other factors such as weather and terrain.
