A walk along the bank of the river Nidd, through quiet woodlands, fields and mostly well made tracks.

This walk has great variety. We start near to the Caravan and Motorhome Club site at Scotton and enter Lowram banks woods (maintained by the Woodland Trust).

An easy hardcore path drops down to the river to cross onto the south bank via a footbridge. Turning right, the path follows the river for the next couple of miles along flagstone paths and raised boardwalks which can be poorly maintained in places. The route here can be muddy in wet weather. Very pleasant listening to bird calls with the running water nearby.

After a while the path takes a turn to climb steeply away from the river and through field edges and paths towards the disused North Eastern Railway track which is easy walking tarmac. A very short distance on the NER, passing around a crop field to join another good surface trail along an old railway track. We then follow this path all the way to Harrogate.

Exploring over in Harrogate we follow footpaths across open parks to the main Knaresborough road and follow it for some distance until we exit left to the north east of Starbeck. Some easy walking along country lanes before we drop back down through woods towards the Nidd river for a second time. The hardcore path is well made and takes us back across the footbridge where we follow the route back the way we started.

A very pleasant 8.5 mile walk.

About the Calorie Calculator

Our Calorie Calculator estimates how many Calories you will burn using Metabolic Equivalent (MET) values from Compendium of Physical Activities. The Compendium idenitifes the relative energy cost of undertaking various activities compared with doing nothing. We then combine this with your weight and the estimated duration of the activity, taking into account the length of the route and the hills involved, to estimate the total Calories burned.

When selecting an Activity setting, select the speed you would normally travel at on flat ground.

Please remember, the estimated number of Calories is just a guide and the actual number of Calories burned may vary depending on other factors such as weather and terrain.
