This is an extremely interesting ride on a fairly flat route, which takes in 2 of the most interesting landmarks; Anderton boat lift ( highest lock lift in the world and still operational I believe) and then on to Dutton locks, along the fine gravel towpaths ( great spot for a picnic stop)
You cross the river weaver via the lock gates from north to south side and ride out for another mile on a gravel towpath. There are cattle gates on both sides, but not a big deal. The gravel tow paths are good and fine on a road bike. You could even ride this route in the wet, but advisable to male sure it is dry, if on road bikes.
The rest of the route is also interesting especially the first 20 miles and all good lanes.

There is a cafe at the Anderton boat lift above the museum, which is ok.

About the Calorie Calculator

Our Calorie Calculator estimates how many Calories you will burn using Metabolic Equivalent (MET) values from Compendium of Physical Activities. The Compendium idenitifes the relative energy cost of undertaking various activities compared with doing nothing. We then combine this with your weight and the estimated duration of the activity, taking into account the length of the route and the hills involved, to estimate the total Calories burned.

When selecting an Activity setting, select the speed you would normally travel at on flat ground.

Please remember, the estimated number of Calories is just a guide and the actual number of Calories burned may vary depending on other factors such as weather and terrain.
