Starting in Englefield Green, you wind your way down to Runnymede. The Airforce Memorial is a moving place to visit if you have time, with a lovely view out over the landscape.

Once past the M25, the detour (if you so choose) takes you along a beautiful river before rejoining the road and heading to Ankerwycke.

Ankerwycke is so much quieter than the other side of the river for starters. However, it's also the home of the famous Yew! (https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/runnymede/features/ankerwycke) You might as well read up on it yourself, to save me the time, but it seems very likely, in my unprofessional opinion, that the Magna Carta was signed here. It's been a meeting place for centuries - even Alfred The Great's council met here. Not much left of the Priory however. Nice place to stop for lunch!

Yes you have to return past the M25, sorry, but then along the river which is a lovely walk. Check out the Queen's statue on route - at least I think it is supposed to be her - there's a rather neat timeline on the floor showing all the Kings and Queens through history.

Then into Windsor Deer Park. Away from the crowds on the Long walk. There's some amazing trees here and you may well see the deer too! The last section is just to make it a little more interesting rather than walk the whole way on the road - but it might be a better option if your legs are getting the better of you!

About the Calorie Calculator

Our Calorie Calculator estimates how many Calories you will burn using Metabolic Equivalent (MET) values from Compendium of Physical Activities. The Compendium idenitifes the relative energy cost of undertaking various activities compared with doing nothing. We then combine this with your weight and the estimated duration of the activity, taking into account the length of the route and the hills involved, to estimate the total Calories burned.

When selecting an Activity setting, select the speed you would normally travel at on flat ground.

Please remember, the estimated number of Calories is just a guide and the actual number of Calories burned may vary depending on other factors such as weather and terrain.
