Hi,
I love plotaroute for plotting routes but as i only have my android phone for navigation, I don't need to transfer a file to a garmin or similar.
So for people also using a phone for navigation, what app do people like for following the routes on.
Also, same question for recording routes.
I'd like to use minimum amount of apps, but I realise I need something else in addition to plotaroute only because it doesn't record routes and when I defiate from the planned route its nice to have a record.
Thanks in anticipation.
Neil
Hi Neil
Like you, I'm new to plotroute, and can see the potential especially with "group (Club) walks".
If this helps I have tried many and feel that I am "getting there"
I have for many years used "Outdooractive" predecessor, sorry the name escapes me, which I found very user-friendly, and light. Sadly I personally find Outdooractive, heavy and chunky. Needless to say, I've looked at others, without a subscriptions, and nothing seemed to "click" with me.
So I took the plunge and subscribed to Ordinance Survey, which I must admit is good. However again, whether, Operator error or the equipment, the app is power-hungry.
I have now found "Visofando", which enables .gpx import and route following, jury is out at the moment but looking promising. As a bonus and for some unknown reason, they have given me OS mapping for twelve months free, maybe because I've posted a few walks?
I hope my ramble has helped
Pete
I have for many years used "Outdooractive" predecessor, sorry the name escapes me,
"Viewranger" ....
Regarding mapping, this is the cycle view I find most useful. Viewranger used to suppoprt it, and plotaroute does. I am awaiting, with patience, the mobile app for route tracking ..... see https://www.plotaroute.com/featurerequests and vote!!
Thanks for your patience Mark! Probably no need to worry about voting for this one now, as it's in development and we're working very hard on it. We were hoping to have it available by now, but it's proving to be more complicated than we we expected. However, hopefully it won't be too long before we can bring you more news about this.
Patience is a virtue!! :)
