Sadly, this one has defeated me – I can not find a way within my control to fix the issue. However, it is a fault within the Garmin realm and not a Plotaroute fault.
The issue is identical for routes created within Garmin Connect (ie they have nothing to do with Plotaroute)..
My workaround will be to force the updated route onto the Garmin client using the Garmin Connect ‘send to device’ option for routes starred in Plotaroute.
Thanks. We've tested it by updating a route and it seemed to work OK for us - when we checked on Garmin Connect the route we'd previously transferred had been correctly changed. So maybe there are some special circumstances where it is not working. If you do find out anything more let us know.
Let me know if I can help. I'm convinced of the issue, but understand you won't spend to much time on it if it's only affecting a few (maybe one?) of your customers. The behaviour has been consistent since the day you released the feature. I'll keep experimenting to see if I can learn anything useful that might hint at where the issue lies.
That's odd as we're getting positive response from Garmin when we send route updates. We'll do some further investigations.
Thanks for the clarification on how the process should work.
Bad News: the ‘default’ process didn’t work (eg my device didn’t receive the updated Bournemouth>Bristol route last night) – nor did the process work on a different route this morning.
Good News: the unstar/star mechanism did work. I’m almost certain I’ve tried that before and it hasn’t worked, but it did this time so maybe I was mistaken previously (or had in fact always deleted the original route on the client device).
How I have a process for getting updated route onto the Garmin. Thanks for the prompt attention.
If you edit and resave a route that you've previously starred and sent to Garmin it should send the updated route to Garmin and this should replace the original one - when you first send a route to Garmin, Garmin gives us a Course ID for it and so when we send an update we send back that Course ID so that the route can be identified and replaced. I can see from our log that an update of your Bournmouth>Bristol route was sent yesterday evening, so this should have replaced your original one that was transferred unless you deleted it from Garmin first.
To force a route to be resent, unstar it and then star it again - this will add it to the transfer queue again.
I create a route, star that route and it's downloaded to my Garmin 830 next time I reboot the device. All good.
Next I amend the route (the one I've previously downloaded) on the desktop version of Plotaroute.
This updated route does not get downloaded to my Garmin - so I now have two different versions of the route (ie not synced).
If I delete the original route off the Garmin, the updated route is not downloaded even though it's starred.
Is this how the sync is supposed to work? If yes, is there a process which I could follow that force the updated route to be downloaded.
