We are pleased to announce another new premium feature on plotaroute.com - a new auto-plot option to help with planning off-road routes for walks and runs.
By default the ON FOOT auto-plot option will follow any roads and paths that are flagged as accessible for pedestrians on OpenStreetMap. Premium members now have the option of refining this, by selecting Prefer Off-Road to create more scenic routes. This will give priority to waymarked trails and other footpaths, while trying to avoid roads, particularly busier ones. Obviously this will depend on the availability of suitable trails and paths in the area, but where off-road options are available these will be given priority. For the best results, try to plot points a reasonable distance apart, as there are then more alternative routes available.
The new Prefer Off-Road option is available on both the desktop site and our mobile app.
