Allow a user to either overlay a KML of one's earned tiles or create a VeloViewer Plugin for Chrome as has been done for Strava. Perhaps this is similar to the "Provide a facility to import and display KML overlays on maps" suggestion. For those unfamiliar with the tile hunting obbsession:

Thanks for the suggestion.
I'd like to repeat the request for a VeloViewer overlay within Plotaroute - it would be an awesome integration. VeloViewer is integral to my route selection and Plotaroute is my goto tool for accurate planning. However, I have to flick between Plotaroute and VV which is time consuming and checking that I've hit my required tile involves me planning the route, saving it, downloading the GPX, loading the GPX into Strava and then viewing it with the Strava VeloViewer Chrome plugin. Imagine it all just being visible at within Plotaroute - Nirvana!
Is this possible but not high on your todo list or are there issues that make it impossible? I'm sure there are many users who would appreciate this.
Thanks for all your work on Plotaroute - it's a great tool
On a related note, I think.

We're not familiar with Veloviewer. Is there a facility to export the map data in KML format? If we were to develop a KML viewer option so that you could overlay a KML file in the route planner would that then provide what you're looking for?
Yes, a user can export a KML. That KML is still required to inform the EveryTile IQ app for Garmin Edge products.

Previously, IIRC, the KML was also used as an overlay when routing using the Strava route builder. Trust me when I say this is not ideal. Far better is the VeloViewer Strava Plugin for Google Chrome.

Please reach out to Ben at VeloViewer. I've primed him on the matter. As I understand it (I don't speak javascript), most all the work would be on his end, but you could help make his life (plugin modifications) easier (or impossible. Ben: ". . .they can break very easily if the routing site changes their code even slightly."). Coincidentally, he'd never heard of Plotaroute before. Ironically, he's in the UK too.
If you get Plotaroute to work with the VV plugin, create "real" mobile apps (I don't know why people care about this), and Garmin repairs the firmware so the Virtual Partner works again, you'll give RideWithGPS a run for their money.
Thanks for the additional information Paul. We've added this to our Feature Requests list (number 115), so that we can establish how much interest there would be in this. We like the idea of being able to show your Veloviewer completed tiles on the route planner map, but realistically this probably isn't something we can do quickly given competing demands. Of course we'd love to implement all the suggestions that people out forward, but we have a very large number, so we try to focus on things that have broad appeal if we can, taking into account other factors like costand technical feasibility.
I don't think we'd want to implement a solution based on a Chrome extension though, as we don't want to develop features that force our users to use certain browsers, so we would probably need to look into other options. I can understand that a KML file transfer is not ideal as the data will need regularly updating, but there would be user authentication issues with to overcome with a more integrated solution, so a KML import may be the easiest solution initially and this could then be used for other purposes as well as displaying output from Veloviewer. There is an existing Feature Request for importing and displaying KML overlays which you can vote for (number 30).
