Instead a new route is always created.
The route I'm trying to edit has more than 2500 points, so I'm also reducing the number of points as well as editing the route, but every time I save it, it creates a new route, so the original is unchanged.
The route I was trying to edit is this one:
https://www.plotaroute.com/map/536980
Just tried to reduce the number of points and save, but still a new route is created.
We've not been able to reproduce this problem here. Could you have accidentally clicked the SAVE AS NEW ROUTE button (just next to the REDUCE POINTS button on the SAVE ROUTE panel)? If it's still happneing, can you let us know the exact steps to reproduce the problem please so that we can repeat them here?
To repro:
[1] Create/copy a route with > 2500 points
[2] Switch to an account that does not allow > 2500 points
[3] Edit route and use Reduce Points function to reduce number of points to below 2500
[4] Save route
[5] Popup window appears showing new route ID, even though [Save As New Route] button was not clicked
Note the problem does not occur with routes with < 2500 points. I can save these routes and the route ID is preserved (as expected).
Sorry John, I'm confused. If you create a brand new route under Standard memberhsip (step 1) you'll need to reduce the points to under 2,500 first before you save it, so the route will already have less than 2,500 points when you come to edit it again. If you edit someone else's route that has more than 2,500 points, you will need to save a copy of this to your own account to save it, which will therefore create a new route.
Sorry, the repro was meant to be from your perspective, not mine. I had imagined you didn't see the issue because you were using an account that allowed > 2500 points.
I have several existing routes that have > 2500 points that were created before the 2500 points constraint was added. I can no longer edit and save these routes using the original route ID - whenever I reduce the number of points and click save, it always generates a new route ID.
To clarify, I am editing my own routes and the problem occurs with any route with > 2500 points.
I can edit my own routes with < 2500 points and save as normal.
From my perspective the repro is:
[1] Edit any of my existing routes with > 2500 points
[2] Use Reduce Points function to reduce number of points to below 2500
[3] Save route
[4] Popup window appears showing new route ID, even though [Save As New Route] button was not clicked
Sorry John, I still can't reproduce this problem here. I followed your steps exactly and the route saved with the original Route ID. Which Reduce Points button did you press - there are several so maybe the problem only happens with one of them?
I have a similar problem, albeit without the issue of number of points.
1) Open an existing route for edit.
2) Remove a text comment by clicking on it then deleting it with the button in the window.
3) Save the route - without pushing the "save as a new route" button.
4) When I look at myroutes a new route has been created, even though I tried to save with the old route number.
I also tried to delete the text of the comment and then push the save button in the "edit text" window - and that did not save when I opened the route again.
I basically want to delete a text comment on my route and preserve the original route ID and I can't.
I am doing this with route https://www.plotaroute.com/map/1259301

I just got it to work. Not sure what I did differently but the text box has successfully been removed. No need to respond unless you have a sure-fire way of getting this done that I can use in the future.
