On an out and back route if I want to add a direction on the out section it is impossible. It always wants to add it to the return leg.
I guess it is because it can't determine which of the two lines I am on as they overlap each other.
If I could edit the distance in the direction it would fix the problem.
If you’re having problems selecting a point where different sections of the route overlap, you can use the Reshape Section tool (with the Auto-Plot switch turned off) to separate the overlapping sections slightly so that you can select the correct one.
We're hoping to be able to add a new tool to make it easier to separate overlapping sections of a route at some point - it's on our Feature Requests list (number 12), so if anyone would like to see us develop this, please vote for it on our Feature Requests page.
You can do it in another way on the mobile. You use the distance/timer slider ( I don't know what it's called ) and then I suppose you can easily put it everywhere on an out and back route.
If you are on a desktop you can also go to mobile view by adding text '/mobile' in adressbar.
Just tested to be in edit map view on https://www.plotaroute.com/map/970757 and change adress to https://www.plotaroute.com/mobile/map/970757.
After that open directions from menu and position and adding a direction by slider.
Thanks for the reply The direction slider I have tried in the past and it does some very odd plotting on the actual line for out and back lines seeming to add a lot of extra distance between the two points - I think even though the distance slide bar markers are correct the plotting is still thinking its the out line rather than the back line. so I've got fed up with it and need another way.
I can do a video if need be
I'll try the reshape option - let you know.
@ Peter. Did you try with a + 100 km long track_route ? Where you able to easily and precisely select the point where to add extra direction (info) ?
No, just a 10k. On the mobile a 10k is hard with the short slider. I can imagine that 100k is hard on desktop, but it's easier with the mouse+desktop than finger on mobile.
Reshape Section tool - works - it's not ideal, but I've added my vote for number 12 - thanks,
@ Peter.
The mobile distance glider @ edit "add directions here" is unreliable by unexpected false located trkpt jumps.
Test by: https://www.plotaroute.com/mobile/map/974791
See the location indication false trkpt jumps between 0.331 km and 0,439 km.
Advantage by distance selection, there is (should be) no need to fiddle with multiple overlapping track layers.
But on long tracks, precise selection by the actual distance glider, becomes very difficult.
Possible improvements.
1. Precise trkpt selection by extra Buttons: << < + > >>
- Move the selection marker by << >> trkpt to trkpt browsing buttons. (keyboard)
- Show the existing trackpoints by little "ontrack" dot markers.
2. Add new trkpt between 2 existing ones by < + >
< > Slowly move the marker positon between 2 trkpt's.
+ Create new trkpt.
Easy implementation ?
Point 1. Probably.
Point 2. ?
I agree that it can be hard to put the slider on a specific position, but disagree that it give me unexpected results. I always get a direction where the track marker is (even though the distance showing can vary).
A great idea to have step buttons on each side of the slider to fine tune back and forth between possible points where to put the direction.
Hi Peter,
I did not say, gives directions at fake locations. I will express it slightly differently. (NL to EN). By the test: The moving slider action is sometimes not perfectly smooth and has a number of unexpected forward and backward jumps during the slider movement. It therefore does not leave a really reliable impression. Roger?
