Ho Peter, I have now set that field on my watch. I will try it next time I use it, thankyou for the information

I've a 5x (non plus) and its working fine for me.

Do you have the 'next waypoint' data field in one of your navigational data screens?

Hi Martynas, I have a similar watch, the Fenix 5 Plus. How do you get the waypoint names to appear on the watch, is it using a particular data field? I also output my routes to FIT format. Thankyou

Ah great, I'm glad the FIT file transfer solved the problem. Thanks for flagging up the other issue, it looks like a bug has crept in somehow, we'll look into it and get it fixed as soon as possible.

Yes! Placing FIT file finally worked. Now I do see waypoint names on the watch - thank you John! I was almost happy until I started adding directions (should I say waypoints? are these the different than directions?) to my route - map behaviour is very strange. When I add direction, first of all, I cannot drag it precisely onto the place I want. Secondly, even if I add it where I want (after multiple tries) - once directions/label text is added, the point selected jumps randomly to some other point in the route. Imagine having a street and puting direction in the middle of the street - once you added directions/label/symbol and clicked Ok, the point saved appears to be either in the beginning of the street, or the end of the street. What I'm doing wrong?

Have a look at the GPX file in a text editor on your computer. You should be able to see the waypoints near the bottom of the file and see what the Name tags has been set to.  There are no settings in the plotaroute download process that can change the Waypoint name, so I assume it must be being discarded by your Fenix device. Have you tried downloading the route as a FIT file?  I think other Fenix users do that.

Sadly, putting file directly to watch did not solve my problem. If initially I was seeing empty space in the name field, now I'm looking at _ _ _ _ symbols... I have added description name matching label name, but still - name is not displayed. Maybe I have to use specific settings when saving the GPX file?

Than you very much John, I will definitely try putting a GPX file directly to the watch once I'm home tonight.

I think the information might be being lost at the point you import to Garmin Connect.

When you download a route in GPX format from plotaroute, waypoints are included for all directions and for any other symbols or labels you've added directly to the map.  The Waypoint Name for these is the first 10 characters of either the label, direction or symbol, in that order, depending on which are available.

When you download a route in FIT or TCX format, you don't get Waypoints as such, but each of the directions is added as a Coursepoint.  The name for the Coursepoint will generally be the first 10 characters of the road name in the directions (we attempt to extract that from the directions).

If you have a suitable device you could try bypassing Garnin Connect and transferring the file directly to it - this might help. Have a look at our guide on downloading routes to a Garmin Edge and other Garmin devices.

Hi folks! My typical workflow is that I draw routes on pc then open via Safari in Iphone and download from there, import via Garmin Connect. When I draw the route,  I then include my own waypoints and I name them accordingly, select symbol. I typically use FIT file though I also tried GPX - the problem is that eventhough the route works ok and I always get the distance to the next waypoint, I never get the name for the next waypoint.

Waypoint names and labels are also not seen in Garmin Connect after I open the route within it, just the starting and end point - maybe I simply don't know what are the needed exact options when importing/drawing the route? Or maybe this does not work if being done via mobile?

Thank you for the help and very very good site - using it is a pleasure!
