Dear John,
All done, I think. It was a bit of a marathon but I got there in the end. The key point was understanding that removing a link to a photo does not delete the photo itself. Obvious now but not when I first noted the issue.
I've spotted a number of other things along the way but I'll note these as separate topics.
Martyn
OK. Thanks John. I'll have a go.
Martyn
I think it's going to be tricky for me to know what photos should be where and it would be much easier for you to tidy them up. The best way to do this is to go through each route and check the photos in the directions are showing on the View Route page. If not, remove them from the directions, upload them again to the route and reattach them to the directions. I suspect the problem will only be with the routes created by merging together one or more other routes.
John
Hi John,
Thanks for taking a look.
I would like to end up with photos referenced in directions to be correctly stored against the corresponding route. Any 'superfluous' photos can be deleted.
If I have somehow managed to get the same photo linked to multiple routes, I'm happy for it to end up linked to just one route and then I can simply upload it a second time to the other route (providing i can see where this has happened. )
(Ideally, this needs to apply to all the routes I listed in my last post.)
Basically, I just want to end up tidy and don't mind doing a bit of work to get there as long as I know what to do.
Thanks,
Martyn
Hi Martyn,
I've had a look into this and the photos that are shown on the print view on route 434892 are all currently assigned to route 405130. I can reassign them to 434892 if you like but they wouldn't then be displayed with route 405130. Let me know if you'd like me to do that.
John
Thanks John.
Just to say that, following a day walking the route yesterday to try it out, I updated the route last night while all was fresh in mind. Autoplot managed to unexpectedly delete a chunk along with the dirctions and hence the photo links. A minor annoyance but it begs the question what will have happened to the photos that were linked in the directions but not part of the route? Will they have been deleted or are they left 'in limbo', taking up space but without me being able to access them to delete them?
If this is of any significance, tbe routes that were subject to the merge/split/photo-link issue were:
365296
405130
421446
434895
434892
Best regards,
Martyn
I see the problem now, sorry, I didn't realise the photos were displaying in the print view but not on the view route page. It could well be linked to the Merge Routes issue but it's impossible to know. I should hopefully be able to reinstate them on the view route page though. Leave it with me.
John
Hi John,
Yes, I think that's the underlying issue. The directions link to photos that are included when the route is printed but the photos seem to be saved against a different route.
I suspect this occurred in association with photos getting 'lost' when routes were merged. You fixed that issue (see earlier parts of this thread) but I susspect that the photos associated with this particular route were left 'hanging'.
If so, are you able to correct the mismatch manually? If not, how best for me to do it myself?
Martyn
There don't seem to be any photos saved with that route Martyn - is that the right link?
John
Hi John,
I'm just back to plotting some routes after enjoing them outdoors for a while. :-)
I've also treated myself to a new smartphone (Android 7.0) so I'm making use of the mobile formats for the first time. Very impressive! They seem to work well.
Today I printed off one of the routes I created a while back: https://www.plotaroute.com/route/434892
It prints just fine, including the photos, but when I access it on my smartphone, the photos don't appear. The 'Photos' option reports that there are no photos.
I suspect this is tied up with the issue I reported earlier in this thread and it may be that this route got caught in the crossover before you fixed the issue.
Are you able to check what has happened and either work some slight of hand behind the scenes to get the photos in the right place or tell me how best to fix things for myself?
Thanks,
Martyn
