I am new to all this stuff . I prepared my first route , saved it, sent it to a file (windows 10 PC) , connected my Garmin to the PC . Two Garmin devices are shown . I "sent" the file to both these devices , but nothing has arrived on the Garmin . Where should these downloaded files appear. There is nothing in "routes" or "tracks" .

I am new to GPS devices , and pretty rubbish at the PC . Its all a bit of a struggle !

Hi Nigel - these instructions for transferring routes to a Garmin device should hopefully help.

    John,

    thankyou for your help .

I think my "route" has downloaded to my Montana , but is not accessable .

With the device attached to my PC I can see device description -"Garmin Montana 610 (F)" , and underneath heading "Garmin" which contains all the stuff I expect to see - all the Gpx files I have created to date . and various other stuff.

My new  "plotaroute" file is not listed with Gpx files.

BUT , the plotaroute file DOES appear separately underneath (not inside the Garmin header) , but freestanding. It is described as "Gpx" , but is not part of my tracks/routes folders  , so I will never be able to get at it.

I am worried that I am stuffing corrupt data into a corner of my Garmin , which I can never access to delete .

I'm afraid we don't have that specific device here so it's hard to give more advice.  If you can see the GPX foilder on your device in the file browser though, it should simply be case of copying the downloaded file from plotaroute to that folder.

Success !! . I have dragged the freestanding route file into the GPX folder , and was then able to view it on the Garmin . If I was cleverer with my PC I might have done that before , but thanks for your support .

As an experiment , I repeated the whole download process , and the plotaroute file again located itself "freestanding" , separate from the GPX folder .

    regards ,

    Nigel
