Hi Rowan - I'm not sure about that one.  Nobody has mentioned that before.  It's something I think you'd need to ask Garmin or raise with other Garmin users as you've already done.

Can anyone else offer any advice on this?

    Hi John,

Sorry to revive a long dormant post, but I have a quick question about this. Firstly, I'm loving the system and the turn warnings are very useful. My question though is about the format they take. I'm not really sure of the terminology and if there is a difference between course points and waypoints, but I notice that the turn warnings are staying on my garmin edge 820 even after I have finished following that particular course. I suspect that they are then stacking up in the thing's memory and causing it to freeze eventually. Is that consistent with what you expected, or would you expect the warnings to only appear if I was actually following that particular course? Is there a way to make it so that happens? I have also been asking about this on the Garmin forums by the way, you can see the conversation at https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?357287-BUG-Garmin-Edge-820-Total-Crash-Brick-Shut-off-while-Navigating-a-Course&p=938626#post938626 if you want more context.

    Thanks,

    Rowan

Hi Justin - I think I spotted your post on the Garmin forum about this too and someone from Garmin has been answering questions I posted there.  It seems that the standard limit is actually 200 coursepoints, at least for the most common Garmin Edge models.  I was under the impresison that it was 100 but it's possible that it was 100 at some point and that newer versions of firmware have since increased this.  I'll get our site changed to use 200 as a default limit but in the meantime you should be able to safely select 200 as the Course Point Limit when downloading and hopefully this will give you enough directions for longish routes.  If not, you can always use our Manage Directions feature to delete and/or combine directions.

This is great thanks, although I am getting warnings advising that including turn warnings counts towards the course point limit, which severely restricts its use on a longer ride (I have already had to cut down from nearly 200 to 100 before I even include turn warnings). I do not recall it ever being an issue when I used the same feature on BRT, so not sure if they had this feature programmed in differently or maybe my device, Edge 510, can handle more than 100 course points? I have tried Googling, but cannot se the limit for my device. Not sure if anyone else knows?

I'm very pleased to say that we have just implemented this.  Read more on our Turn Warnings news post.

Hi I'm a bit late to this conversation but am pleased to see its already on the to do list. Advance warning for a turn, particularly on routes that are new would help prevent overshooting!  Only been using plotaroute for a couple of weeks but the lack of advance warning for turns is the only niggle I have with it.

Sorry for the delay with launching this new feature - it's on the way and should be implemented very soon now.
